No Shame in the Masturbation Game

November 26th, 2007 · No Comments

Dear Sasha,

I just read that post about Mr.Schmidt being too depressed to masturbate, and I suffer from something similar. Everytime I masturbate, I am filled with shame. I have even started to see hair growing on my palms, and I swear my eye sight is getting worse by the minute. I know you aren’t a doctor, but do you have any advice?

Lots of shame in this game,
Harry P. Alms

Hi Harry, thanks for writing in. I am so sorry to hear that after feeling something so good, you begin to feel so bad. A few questions arise when I hear of people who feel immediate shame after self-pleasure.

Were you raised in a religion that feels masturbation is a sin? This seems to be the main reason why many people feel shameful for giving into the natural feeling of wanting to pleasure oneself. While I was not raised in one of these religions, I have friends who were, and while I was running around talking about self love, they were completely disgusted and embarassed by the thought of it. So my suggestion to you, is if this is the case, start asking questions. Make sure to ask people who haven’t already been telling you its a sin. My next suggestion to you is revolt, rebel, and stick it to the man.
But thats just my opinion.

Was there a lack of communication while you were growing up? A lot of parents would rather use symbolism to educate their children about sex instead of being honest when children become inquisitive. This can cause a bit of confusion among a very aware child, who now has to decipher what birds and bees have to do with boys and girls. Perhaps your parents were not very clear about the strange feelings you were beginning to have at a very young age. If that is the case Harry, I say exit out of the porn website, and get onto a page that can explain to you the details of sexuality.

Lastly, do you surround yourself with friends who are also very sexually conservative? I definitely support having a diverse group of friends, all who have differeing opinions on life but it can be hard to grow if you are stuck with a group of people who are close minded and too conservative. Surround yourself with people who have their own opinions, while also keeping an open mind about things that may be different from how they were raised. It is important to find a group who feels the way you do, while also being ready to break free of this terrible chain of shame.

Hope that helps a bit! And don’t worry Harry, I dont think you are really growing hair on your palms. Maybe its just time for a wash.

All the best,
Sasha
