The Southsnake Is Back With Tales from Down Under

The South Snake is back from my trip to Australia. Sorry I could not get picks in for last week. While I was in Australia (absolutely the country that loves action) the 5 million dollar Melborne Cup was run. The whole country bets on it like it’s a national holiday. It makes the Kentucky Derby look like a second grade race.

Everyone bets in Australia, especially horses. Cricket is big action and also Rugby. They have Dog racing all over the country. There is off-track betting held in most bars. I was in heaven there. There were 24 horses in the big race, The Melborne Cup. I went with Purple Moon who went off at 8 to 1. He almost lasted but got beat by a half a length at the wire. At least I picked up good place money with him. The people and the food is great there as well. I would strongly suggest, if you like gambling, that you take a trip to Australia.

Now for picks that should pay for another trip….. In college ball we will go with U Conn. getting 6 and 1/2 from Cincinnatti….North Carolina getting 3 and 1/2 frm N.C St….and Michigan give the 2 and 1/2 to Wisconsin. In the Pros we will take Jacksonville getting 4 from Tennessee…Minnesota getting 6 and 1/2
from Green bay and Chicago giving 3 to Oakland.

I haven’t forgotten about our Great Plunge. Hopefully it will pop up soon. If we loose it, Australia is not a bad place to get lost in. Have a great week!
